Lynbrook, East Rockaway commemorate the fallen on Memorial Day

Posted

Lynbrook and East Rockaway each hosted Memorial Day parades on Monday. Veterans, first responders, Boys and Girls Scouts members, students and marching bands all took part in the festivities as many residents looked on and cheered during the parade.

In Lynbrook, the parade began at McDonald’s, 121 Merrick Road, and veterans from the Marine Corps League, the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars led groups, including the Kiwanis and school bands, to the Doughboy Monument at Saperstein Plaza, where a service was held.

In East Rockaway, clergy from the various faiths in the village hosted an interfaith ceremony at Bethany Congregational Church to start the day. Later that morning, veterans led local groups from the parade’s starting point at the Veterans of Foreign Wars post. They then marched down the street past the American Legion, and walked up Ocean Avenue to the viewing stage at Village Hall, where a ceremony took place.
