Lynbrook girls' volleyball team raises money to fight breast cancer

The Lynbrook girls’ volleyball team raised almost $500 for breast cancer research when it won a Dig Pink Fundraiser game against Floral Park on Oct. 11.
“I thought it was a good game because it was for a good cause,” said Kate Foley, an outside hitter on the team.
To raise the money, the team members held a bake sale that day, where they sold T-shirts and tickets. Each of the team members also bought a shirt, which raised more than $100, according to squad captain Tori Strife.
All of the proceeds benefitted the Side-Out Foundation, a non-profit organization that encourages volleyball players, coaches and families across the county to raise money for clinical trials for individuals with Stage 4 breast cancer. “Dig Pink and other Side-Out programs help participants develop skills such as teamwork, leadership and perseverance, giving them opportunities to live meaningful and impactful lives,” the website reads.
Coach Sue Amberge said that she thought the fundraiser was a good idea. “Giving back to people in need is always a positive thing,” she said.
