Lynbrook man fatally struck by van

A Lynbrook man was struck and killed by a van in the village on Saturday.

According to a release from the Nassau County Police Department, Donald Marasak, 71, was attempting to cross Atlantic Avenue from the eastbound side to the westbound side when he was fatally struck by a 2007 Ford van, which was traveling southbound.

Marasak was transported to a local hospital, where staff physicians pronounced him dead. According to the NCPD's release, the 48-year-old man who was driving the van remained at the scene, and a brake test on the vehicle revealed that it had adequate braking ability. The investigation is ongoing.
