Chalk walk for kids and adults begins this weekend

More than 100 people took a stroll through the village’s downtown last weekend to view artwork on display as part of the Malverne Chamber of Commerce’s first annual Art Walk. The exhibition, which is free, runs through June 24.

“Many people who participated were going into stores and services for the first time,” said Maria Casini, a Chamber board member who helped coordinate and curate the event. “I think this is a great opportunity to build relationships in the community.”

Blue balloons lined the streets in front of where people would find artwork. Some works were sited in business windows; others were hung among the businesses’ own artwork, and often blended quite nicely.

Most of the artwork is for sale and ranges in price from just under $100 to more than $1,000.

To add to the experience, and get spectators involved, the Chamber is supplying chalk at all participating retailers and asking children and adults to draw images of summer and Malverne on its sidewalks. "We want people to participate in Malverne being a living gallery for the month," said Casini, who is the CEO of Visual Fuel Design, a graphic design and branding company in Malverne. Casini will be adding chalk art of her own to the exhibition this weekend.
