The ring of a phone repeatedly chimes in the Meineke shop at 560 Sunrise Highway, as four customers walk into the office building. After owner Anmol Singh rushes to greet the customers and assists them, he runs to the phone to call back more customers. Just as Singh begins to hold meetings with his employees to make sure they are tending to customers’ need, the phone starts ringing again and more customers walk into the office.

Every day, Singh works just like this for 12 hours at his auto repair shop. But the long, busy days don’t stop him from giving back to the Baldwin community through several donations. Singh jumped at the opportunity to sponsor the Baldwin Little League after its members sent a letter to him seeking his help.

“If you are running a business in a community it is important to have some kind of community give back,” said Singh. “Volunteering is something that I like to make part of any business that I do because it gives me purpose and drives me to do my business a lot better.”

He helped collect donations for the little league to upgrade its field and get new t-shirts for the summer season.

“It’s important to support youth sports because kids are always on their tablets or their phones,” said Singh. “I want kids to be able to play sports because it builds character and keeps them out of trouble, and this ultimately makes our community a safer place.”

The Meineke shop opened in Baldwin in January, but even before that Singh said he was organizing charitable efforts. He owns a business firm where he teaches people how to trade stocks. In that business, he did a fundraiser about four months ago for Feeding America, where he allowed students to pay whatever they wanted for the course, and 100 percent of the proceeds went to the charity, which seeks to stock food banks and soup kitchens across the country.

“In the beginning I thought, if I can raise enough money for a few meals that would be good, but the response was way greater than I expected,” said Singh. “When I did this donation, it totally changed my life because it ignited something in me to want to do more donations and charities through my businesses.”

As Singh’s team at the Meineke shop continues to grow, he hopes to find additional avenues to give back to the community.

“Baldwin community has been very nice to the Meineke shop ever since we opened and they supported us and helped us along by spreading the word about our business and I think it’s important for me to do as much as I can, even if it’s just giving back a little something,” said Singh. “I’m always looking for new opportunities to support my community in any way and I’m hoping to continue to give back every year to the
