Message from Freeport Public Schools Board of Education President

On behalf of the Board of Education, I am pleased to welcome parents, students and staff to the 2017-18 school year. It was a busy and productive summer. We had more than 2,300 students involved in 13 summer programs including, but not limited to, academic support, enrichment, science research, and the arts, the PTECH program, Special Education, Summer Literacy Camp, a project-based ENL program and the Summer Academy of the Arts.

Much work was also completed this summer to maintain and improve our school buildings. As your Board of Education, we are delighted that many of these projects and upgrades were accomplished through our Capital Reserve Fund at no additional cost to our taxpayers. As community members, our Board is very aware of the importance of providing our children with the best educational opportunities in a fiscally responsible manner. While maintaining and increasing our programs, we are very proud to bring a school budget with a tax levy decrease for the third consecutive year, and the fifth time in 10 years. We are also pleased that our district continues with Standard & Poor’s high bond rating of AA.

Under the outstanding leadership of our Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Kishore Kuncham, our district continues to reach advanced levels of achievement and excellence. We have enhanced our programs and increased our dual enrollment offerings. Our students have won awards for academics, performing arts and sports. Our dedicated teachers and administrators are committed to raising the bar of expectations and supporting each child to meet success. Our students receive outstanding educational opportunities to enhance their learning so they can grow into competent, caring community members.

The Board truly understands the value of providing a superior education and keeps this in mind as we work throughout the year. Your input is welcome and immeasurable. Please plan to attend the many concerts, sporting events and other activities during the school year. I invite parents and all of our community members to attend our Board meetings, introduce yourself to us, and share your thoughts.
