‘Solo: A Star Wars Story

During an adventure into the criminal underworld, Han Solo meets his future copilot Chewbacca and encounters Lando Calrissian years before joining the Rebellion. Watch “Solo: A Star Wars Story” (2018, PG-13, 135 minutes) at the Oceanside Library on Sunday, Sept. 30 from 2 to 4 p.m.

Writing creatively

If you enjoy using your imagination and writing stories for fun then join the Island Park Public Library for a creating writing session on Wednesday, Oct. 3 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Create interesting characters and develop unexpected plot twists, but register beforehand!

Golfing with the chief

The Oceanside Fire Department is holding their annual Chief’s Golf Outing on Thursday, Oct. 4 at 9 a.m. at The Golf Club at Middle Bay at 3600 Skillman Ave. in Oceanside. All proceeds go to the Kenny Marino Scholarship Fund in remembrance of a man who lost his life in the Sept. 11 attacks. There will be breakfast and lunch at the turn and dinner at the Knights of Columbus. It is $150 per golfer, or $75 for dinner only. Contact Gary 351-2319.

Exhibit opening

Visit Holocaust Memorial and Tolerance of Nassau County for a special Curator’s Corner presentation opening the new exhibit, “Celia Goetz: The Aggressive War Chief of Nuremberg.” The event, on Sunday, Sept. 30, at 2 p.m. examines Judge Goetz and the legacy of the Nuremberg Trials. HMTC, which was presented with hundreds of Judge Goetz’s personal letters and court documents in 2016, proudly presents this collection for the first time to the public. Goetz was the only American female prosecutor to deliver an opening statement at the Nuremberg Trials, redefining a woman’s role in the courtroom on the international stage. Seats are limited and reservations are required. A tuneful evening with Helen Sung

The pianist-composer brings an all-star band to Tilles Center for a concert highlighting her new release “Sung With Words,” her first recording to feature original vocal compositions that feature the poems of California Poet Laureate Dana Gioia as lyrics. Sung opens the evening, Saturday, Sept. 29, at 8 p.m., with her newest project “On Tap with Michela Marino Lerman.” Sung and Lerman give a lively interpretation of the American Songbook.
