Oceanside was ranked among the top 100 school districts in New York state for the 2019-20 school year in a recent listing by Niche.com.
Niche, a school and neighborhood ranking website, slotted Oceanside at No. 73 on its list.
“It’s gratifying to be recognized for the work we do on behalf of our students,” Superintendent Dr. Phyllis Harrington said, “... At the Oceanside School District, we strive to keep the human element at the center of what we do. We focus on what’s best for our students. If that happens to mesh with a ranking system, it still comes down to student success as the ultimate metric.”
Each district received a letter grade in the categories of academics (A grade for Oceanside), diversity (B-minus), teachers (A-plus), college preparation (A), clubs and activities (A), health and safety (A-minus), administration (B), sports (A-plus), food (B) and resources and facilities (B-plus). Niche looked at data from the U.S. Department of Education along with test scores, college data and ratings collected from users of the website.
