Police: 14-year-old Oceanside girl struck by car, suffers 'massive trauma'

Police and Oceanside school officials reported Friday morning that a ninth-grade Oceanside High School girl, whose first name is Lara, was struck by a car and seriously injured.

The girl reportedly suffered “massive trauma,” when at 7:18 a.m. a 63-year-old man driving east on Foxhurst Road hit her near Harvey Avenue, police said. Nassau County police rushed her to a nearby hospital where she was listed in critical condition at press time on Friday morning.

“This morning we learned that a ninth-grade student from Oceanside High School was hit by a car and was seriously injured,” Oceanside school officials said in a statement. “Our support personnel are on hand to assist students, and our thoughts and prayers are with our student, her family and her friends as we wait for the news.”
