Police arrest Elmont man for firing machine gun

The Nassau County Police Department’s Fifth Squad reported the arrest of an Elmont man who fired a machine gun on April 7, in Elmont.

Detectives said that police were made aware that someone had discharged a machine gun near 1415 Clay Street at 5:45 p.m. After an investigation, detectives found Robert Hoenig 49, to be in possession of a machine gun and five high-power, large capacity ammunition-feeding devices. Detectives also confirmed that Hoenig had fired the weapon. An investigation is still on-going.

Police appeared at the scene of the incident with an armored vehicle, and Hoenig was taken into custody without incident on April 8. He was charged with five counts of criminal possession of a weapon-feeding device, criminal possession of a weapon and reckless endangerment. He will be arraigned on April 9 at the Town of Hempstead’s First District Court.
