Police: I.P. woman arrested on drug charges with child in car

An Island Park mother and a Port Jefferson man were arrested on drug possession and child endangerment charges on Wednesday night, according to Nassau County police, after officers observed suspicious activity on Long Beach Road.

Officers reported seeing a parked vehicle on Long Beach Road, occupied by Christy Crespo, 29, and her 6-year-old son, when another vehicle driven by Jonathan Delrio, 28, approached the car. Police stopped Delrio, who claimed to be providing mechanical assistance to Crespo, authorities said. Upon searching him, police discovered that he was carrying a hypodermic needle.

Officers then searched Crespo’s vehicle and discovered 13 hypodermic needles, marijuana and a plastic spoon containing a substance that appeared to be heroin, according to police.

Crespo was charged with two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance, possession of a hypodermic instrument, child endangerment and criminal possession of marijuana. Delrio was charged with two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance, possession of a hypodermic instrument and child endangerment.

The 6-year-old was released to his grandmother at the scene of the arrest.
