Popular Long Beach eatery reopens

The popular Long Beach restaurant, Brixx & Barley, reopened Wednesday night after it was shut down earlier this month by the Nassau County Department of Health for possible salmonella.

Though the source of the bacteria has yet to be determined, the Health Department said that the restaurant met all of its standards and lifted the closure order. A re-inspection of the restaurant found no evidence of salmonella. The Health Department said that employees disposed of all the food and sanitized the restaurant before the inspection.

The Health Department is still investigating the incident, said spokeswoman Mary Ellen Laurain, following reports of salmonella that were traced back to people who consumed food and drinks at the restaurant.

Brixx & Barley officials released a statement on their Instagram page.

“Just recently, we were notified of a health concern that has affected our restaurant. We take this incident very seriously because the safety of our food and wellbeing of our customers is always our highest priority,” restaurant officials wrote on Instagram. “We committed to taking any and all necessary actions to make sure our food is as safe as possible, and we worked diligently with the Nassau County Health Department. We proudly invite you to come and celebrate our grand re-opening tonight, August 21, 2019, at 5 p.m.”

The restaurant, at 152 W. Park Ave, reopened for “Wing Wednesdays” and featured deals for locals throughout the weekend. On Thursday, they will have a free open bar for two hours from 6 to 8 p.m. and will give out free appetizers. Friday will have a happy hour from 3 p.m. to close and live music at 10 p.m.
