About 400 runners took part in the village of Rockville Centre’s 36th annual 5-kilometer race and 1-mile Fun Run last Saturday.
Young racers flocked to Front Street for the family-friendly Fun Run at 8:30 a.m. as the 5K race started an hour afterward. Aiden Doyle, 10, won the one-mile race with a time of 7 minutes and 48 seconds and Rockville Centre resident Conor Shelley, 31, claimed first place in the 5K, crossing the finish line at 16:44.
Brian O’Gorman, 29, (16:56), and Conor Gallagher, 24, (17:13) took second and third place in the 5K, a 3.1-mile course around the village.
Kaitlyn Kelly, 27, of Rockville Centre, who placed 19th overall, was the first woman to finish at 21:08. Younger racers to finish in the top 20 included 14-year-old Benjamin Lomot (11th place, 20:09); Karter Kasschau, 10, (16th place, 20:49); Kevin Lynch, 16, (17th place, 21:06); and Ryan Schmitt, 14, (20th place, 21:16).
