Rachel Gross, the Malverne School District’s Common Core Chairperson for grades kindergarten through 6th, was appointed principal of the Davison Avenue Intermediate School during the district’s April 20 board meeting.

Gross will replace current Principal Edward Tallon, who will become principal of the Maurice W. Downing Primary School in Malverne. Gross’s appointment becomes effective July 1.

Employed by the district since September 2007, Gross began as a special education teacher at Howard T. Herber Middle School. The last two years, she has served as Common Core Chairperson K-6, where she worked with teachers and students to develop curriculum and programs aligned with New York State standards.

Ms. Gross received her bachelor’s degree in psychology and art studio from Queens College, two master’s degrees from Hofstra University in creative arts therapy and inclusive elementary special education, and her Administrative Certificate from Stony Brook University.

“I am honored by the opportunity and am excited to collaborate with the faculty, staff, students and families of Davison Avenue in this new role,” Gross said in a written statement.
