Q. I had some flood damage and was not living in the house last January. Will I lose my star exemption and real estate tax reduction?

A.
Everyone has to reapply for the star exemption except for the senior enhanced which is based on your tax return. Storm damage must be reported by the taxpayer before January 21 2014 for the possibility of special storm tax reduction.
Additionally every property can apply for a tax assessment reduction based on over-valuation during January and February.

To apply for Superstorm Sandy assessment relief, obtain your STAR exemption code or renew your STAR exemption, click on the appropriate link at the bottom of this page.
