Rockville Centre LIPA trustee retires from board

Rockville Centre resident Jeffrey Greenfield is retiring from the Long Island Power Authority’s Board of Trustees, he announced in a letter to LIPA leadership last month.

Greenfield, who refers to himself as “Citizen Taxpayer” at village and Board of Education meetings, served on the board since December 2012, taking over in the role just after Hurricane Sandy struck Long Island. He has also been a member of the Nassau County Planning Commission since 2002, and previously served as its chairman.

In a letter hand-delivered to LIPA Chairman Ralph Suozzi and secretary Bobbi O’Connor on Dec. 19, Greenfield noted that he was pleased to be “the people’s trustee” that embraced wind and solar power, refinanced debt to manage rates and helped install a new management team under the leadership of LIPA President Tom Falcone.

“So much has been done but yet a lot more needs to be done,” he wrote, adding that he would like to see two seats added to the board to be filled by a consumer advocate from Nassau and Suffolk county. “The diversity of the board … would only work towards the betterment and responsiveness of LIPA and PSEG to the rate-paying consumers on Long Island.”
