The Rockville Centre School District was ranked No. 54 on Niche.com’s 2019 list of the best school districts in New York.

The district, comprising seven schools and nearly 3,500 students, ranked 25th among Long Island school districts, which occupied nearly half of the state’s top 100 slots.

Bordering school districts in Lynbrook and Oceanside fared similarly, ranking No. 51 and 66 in the state, respectively.

The annual ranking measured 675 districts and was based on analysis of academic and student life data from the U.S. Department of Education, along with test scores, college data, and ratings collected from millions of Niche users.

According to Niche, 68 percent of Rockville Centre students are proficient in reading and 79 percent are proficient in math. The average graduation rate is 94 percent, and average SAT and ACT scores are 1220 and 29, respectively. The student to teacher ratio is 11 to 1.

Rockville Centre also ranked No. 25 statewide in terms of best school districts for athletes and No. 52 for best places to teach. South Side High School and Floyd B. Watson Elementary School were the district’s highest-rated schools overall.

The distinction comes several months after the district did not appear on U.S. News and World Report’s 2018 list of the best public high schools, just two years after being ranked No. 15 in the state and 109th nationally. School officials said at the time that key data was not considered by the publication.
