Mostly Cloudy Rockville Centre resident hits the century mark

Rockville Centre Mayor Francis X. Murray honored McAteer at the celebration. Great-grandson Brian Gottlieb, grandson Tom McAteer, grand-daughter-in-law Sarah McAteer, granddaughter Jennifer Gottlieb, son Ray McAteer and Maple Pointe staffer Dani Laino also attended.

Evelyn McAteer, born and raised in Rockville Centre, celebrated her 100th birthday on Nov. 27 at Maple Pointe Assisted Living.
She attended Morris School and South Side High School, and in 1940, she married her high school sweetheart, Lawrence C. McAteer, at the Church of the Ascension on North Village Avenue. She raised her family at their home on Muirfield Road.
In addition to being a wife and mother, she also assisted her husband in his business in Rockville Centre as the bookkeeper. McAteer has three children, seven grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
