Christopher and Mary Beth Kearns will be honored at the Rockville Centre Lions Club “Dinner in the Dark” fundraiser on June 3 for their over 30 years of community service.

According to the Lions Club, the couple is being honored “for their spirited leadership, dedication and support of numerous charitable and cultural endeavors, enriching our community and helping our neighbors.”

“We are pleased and honored to be recognized by our friends and neighbors,” said Mary Beth Kearns.

Mary Beth Kearns started her civil service as the president of the Southside Civic Association before a 16-year stint on the Rockville Centre Planning Board, where she was chairperson for 11 years. She founded the fireworks committee and raised thousands of dollars to continue the show after it was cut from the village budget.

In addition, she served as a board member for the Mercy Junior League, the Rockville Centre Guild for the Arts and treasurer for the Rose Lee Young Childcare Center.

She was recognized as the “Person of the Year” by the Rockville Centre Chamber of Commerce for her continuing service to the village.

Chris has been involved with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society for over 20 years. He is a past chairman of its New York City chapter and currently serves as a trustee for the Long Island chapter. Chris was also a recipient of the Human Relations Award from the American Jewish Committee.

The couple married in 1984 and bought their first house in Rockville Centre the following year. They have four daughters.

The event will take place at the Hempstead Golf and Country Club. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the planned Anthony Brunetta inclusive playground at Hickey Field, which is expected to open next spring, and the Rockville Centre Challenger Baseball League.
