Rockville Centre resident Carol Fisher was one of four women honored by the Long Island section of the National Council of Jewish Women on May 3 for their exceptional contributions as leaders in community services.

Fisher was recognized during the council’s 22nd annual “Women Who Make a Difference” luncheon at Temple Avodah in Oceanside.

Fisher, who has lived in the village for more than 30 years, served as a social worker at South Nassau Communities Hospital until her retirement. For many years, she and her family prepared and delivered Thanksgiving meals to her clients who were spending the holiday alone at home. Since joining council’s South Shore section in 2009, Fisher has worked on its food drives and was involved in the senior program, and serves on the section’s board of directors.

Each woman was recognized for fulfilling the community service goals and overall mission of the council, which is to make a difference in the lives of women, children and families through service, advocacy, education and philanthropy.

Aligned with NCJW’s national and international mission, Long Island Sections identifies local needs to support or augment innovative programs for their communities. The organization’s sections are committed to combating trafficking of women and teens and in grassroots projects for disadvantaged schoolchildren and seniors in conjunction with local agencies.
