Salvation Army honors local leaders

Posted

The Freeport Salvation Army held its 30th annual Civic dinner, which honors local citizens and organizations on May 4. Members and supports of the Salvation Army rallied around the 2018 honorees at the Freeport Yacht Club on Guy Lombardo. The annual dinner is a way of recognizing members of the community who have gone above and beyond to improve the quality of life in the community, while providing leadership and service.

The dinner is also a way the Salvation Army thanks its donors and supporters, while taking an opportunity to educate and inform attendees about what donations are used for. The dinner is also a platform for the organization to talk about lesser known and services it provides the South Shore of Nassau County. All of the funds go to support the Salvation Army Freeport Citadel.

The president of the Freeport Chamber of Commerce and owner of Rachel’s Waterside Grill and Nawlins, Ivan Sayles was given the Community Leader Award. Otto’s Sea Grill owner, Barbara Jagnow was recognized as the Citizen of the Year and Home Depot, represented by John Staffa, was recognized as business of the year.
