Scavenger hunt in Malverne leads to a ‘souper’ collection

Posted

In an effort to help stock the food pantry at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Malverne, as well as bringing the community together, the church held its annual Souper Scavenger Hunt on March 24.
Residents met at the church where they signed up to take part, and formed teams before taking to the streets for this year’s village-wide hunt. Children knocked on doors and collected canned goods throughout the afternoon, competing to score extra points for collection of tuna fish, peanut butter and canned fruits, among other items.
Thanks to the combined efforts of the 15 teams that took part in the scavenger hunt, children collected just over 9,000 lbs. of non-perishable food items.
