A Mercedes SUV heading south on Austin Boulevard in Island Park reportedly crossed into oncoming traffic on Oct. 3 and struck three vehicles resulting in minor injuries, local fire officials said.

At around 11:30 a.m., bystanders had reportedly seen the SUV veer onto the northbound side of Austin and into oncoming traffic. The Mercedes collided with the first vehicle at the intersection of Georgia Avenue and Austin Boulevard before striking a second one head-on near Florida Avenue and hitting another near Alabama before coming to a rest.

Island Park Fire Department Chief Michael Whalen responded to the scene, former IPFD Chief Anthony D’Esposito said. Three people suffered minor injuries. Two were transported to an area hospital and one refused medical attention, according to D’Esposito.
