Local group the11518 is hosting its annual pub crawl on Sept. 22, which will benefit those affected by Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico.

The majority of the proceeds will be donated to La Maraña, a female-led, grassroots nonprofit group that is helping with ongoing recovery efforts in Puerto Rico nearly a year after the storm.

Each year, the11518 members Dan Caracciolo and Joe and Lauren Forgione host the pub crawl to help those in need. The event is also a means to showcase the revitalized restaurants and shops in East Rockaway six years after it was heavily damaged by Hurricane Sandy.

This is the third year of the pub crawl, and more than 250 participants helped raise $10,000 for both Together Baton Rouge, a charity helping post-flood victims in Louisiana, and Next Step Ministries, a community development group that helped Hurricane Harvey victims, over the past two years.

La Maraña envisioned a Puerto Rico where every community has the opportunity to take charge of its own future in the wake of the damage caused by Maria, which hit the island on Sept. 20, 2017.

The crawl is scheduled to last from 1 to 8 p.m., with registration beginning at noon at Michael’s Porthole, 92 New St., East Rockaway. Participating businesses include Barrier Brewing Co., Reel, Lazy Lobster, Grandpa Tony’s, The Bold O’Donoghue’s and Mr. Beerys Village Pub.

For a limited time, tickets cost $40 and include seven up-to-$4 drink vouchers (one for each location), food specials and an event koozie. Tickets can be purchased at er4pr.eventbrite.com, where donations are also being accepted. A large portion of the entry fee will be donated to La Maraña. Must be at least 21-years-old to participate.
