Three RVC stores collecting prom dress donations

Three Rockville Centre stores will on be participating in the Long Island Volunteer Center’s 23rd annual Prom Boutique, which helps girls from less fortunate families realize their dream of going to the prom.

The volunteer center, in conjunction with Nassau Community College’s marketing and fashion students, will be collecting new and gently-used prom dresses, bridesmaid dresses and accessories (dressy shoes, evening bags, costume jewelry, cosmetics) next month.

The ReCreateU novelty boutique at 19 South Village Avenue is already accepting donations and will continue to do so through April 23. The store is open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. from Tuesday to Friday and noon on Saturday. People can also drop off their donations from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on April 23.

Collections are also underway at The Turn of the Corkscrew 110 North Park Avenue during its normal business hours through April 22. The book and wine establishment is open from noon to 9 p.m. on Mondays, 10 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. from Tuesday to Thursday and 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. The store is closed on Sundays.

The Lucky Finds Boutique at 7 North Park Avenue will be collecting during its regular hours from April 18 to 22. The store is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

All dresses and accessories will be distributed free of charge to girls of families across Long Island who cannot easily afford the cost of a new gown for their prom, awards ceremony, or graduation. High school guidance counselors, at-risk youth agencies, group homes and church outreaches make the program available to their constituents.

Over 1,500 girls annually benefit from 65 different schools and nonprofit youth organizations across Long Island.
