Transportation services canceled in Elmont

Transportation services were canceled in the Elmont Union Free School District on Oct. 21, after a staff member at the Elmont Road Administrative Offices —where the transportation department is located — tested positive for Covid-19. The employee has been quarantined, and the Administrative Offices were closed.

No student has tested positive for the virus in this case, Superintendent Kenneth Rosner said, and noted that the district will continue to work with the Nassau County Department of Health and “take all necessary precautions to ensure the health and safety of our school community.”

The news came one day after Rosner announced that Dutch Broadway classes would be quarantined for 14 days after a parent tested positive for Covid-19. Again, he said, no student or staff member tested positive for the virus in this case, but the affected family was told to remain at home, and the classes the students were in will be working remotely. The building, meanwhile, was thoroughly cleaned and disinfected.

“I am confident our approach to addressing the safety of students during the pandemic will continue to serve the entire community well,” Rosner said.
