Valley Stream budgets, propositions pass

District 13

In District 13, a $51.5 million budget passed by a vote of 504 – 323. The budget includes a $36.4 million tax levy, which funds one new special education teacher, one part-time English as a New Language teacher, one part-time speech teacher and one classroom teacher in reserve. Voters also approved the creation of a new capital reserve fund by a vote of 534 – 288.

District 13 residents also voted to re-elect Vice President Vinayak Pandit, who was being challenged by Reginald St. Fort. The final vote count was 367 votes for Pandit, and 289 votes for St. Fort. President William Stris ran unopposed and won re-election with 563 votes.

District 24

In District 24, a $28.75 million budget passed by a vote of 342 – 216. The budget includes a $20.6 million tax levy, for an average per-household tax increase of $118. The budget funds security enhancements, mental health programs, virtual reality programs, keyboarding classes and upgrades to the parent portal. A proposition to create a $2 million reserve fund for reconstruction costs also passed.

The voters also opted to re-elect Trustee Donna LaRocco, who was being challenged by Parent Teacher Association member Melissa Herrera. The final vote was 338 votes for LaRocco and 156 votes for Herrera.

District 30

District residents voted to pass a $35.5 million budget with a $22.2 million tax levy that would fund Google Expeditions. They also voted 370 – 111 to create a new capital reserve fund.

Trustee Ingrid Wyllie Dacon ran unopposed and won re-election with 338 votes.

Central High School District

The centralized high school district’s proposed $117.1 million budget with an $82.9 million tax levy passed in a vote of 1125 – 720.

Residents also voted 1248 – 645 to allow the district to spend $4.6 million for upgrades to the buildings and voted 1206 - 616 to allow the district to create a new reserve fund for capital improvements.
