Valley Stream dogs have their day at the pool

Roughly 30 Valley Streamers along with their furry, four-legged friends headed to the Valley Stream pool on Sept. 3 to finish out the summer at the fifth annual Doggie Pool Party.

For the past five years, the Village of Valley Stream has opened the doors of its Hendrickson Park pool facility to the group of canines for one day at the end of summer, according to Friends of Valley Stream Dogs President Richard Infield.

The group sprang up around the time Valley Stream built its Village Green dog park in 2013, and helps promote dog-centric events in the neighborhood. Infield thanked the village for its continued support of Valley Stream’s dogs and their owners, including its hosting of the Doggie Pool Party.

“The weather was perfect, and the dogs had a lot of fun,” he said. “As always, they’re in their element, and the owners, it’s always a surprise how much the owners or ‘parents’ get out it as well.”

“We had a great time!” said Mayor Ed Fare. He too attended the party with his dog, Shea. “In Valley Stream we love our dogs, and they love us and their dog park and their pool.”
