Walmart evacuated for small electrical fire

The Walmart at the Green Acres Mall was evacuated Wednesday morning after a wire shortage caused a small electrical fire in the meat department.

According to First Assistant Chief Jason Croak, the Valley Stream Fire Department received a call about the electrical fire at about 11:20 a.m. The Fire Department then rushed to the scene, where they shut down the electricity for about 20 minutes, which quelled the fire.

The Walmart is now back up and running, according to Croak, except for the meat department, which cannot re-open until the Health Department inspects the safety of the food.
