Chamber of Commerce to hold scavenger hunt

Posted

The Valley Stream Chamber of Commerce’s second annual scavenger hunt is set to run from Friday, May 15 to Sunday, May 17, and the chamber is hoping to double last year’s number of participants.

David Sabatino, owner of Sip This and a member of the chamber’s Board of Directors, said the idea’s purpose was to connect locals to the Valley Stream businesses that are members of the chamber. “We were trying to think of an event that could engage the members of the community,” he said.

About 25 people participated in five teams last year. Four of them completed the weeklong challenge. This year, the event was condensed and moved to the weekend to make things easier for parents who work during the week.

The event will begin at 4 p.m. on May 15 and end at 4 p.m. on Sunday. A list of items will be posted to the chamber’s Facebook event page for the hunt, as well as its website, at the hunt’s start. The rules and guidelines are as follows:

n All teams should be registered by Monday, May 11 by emailing the team name and members’ names to ValleyStreamChamber@gmail.com, or in person at Sip This, at 64 Rockaway Avenue. Late registration will be considered.

- Each team must have one person over the age of 18.

- At least one teammate must live in the greater Valley Stream — either the Village of Valley Stream, North Valley Stream, Mill Brook or South Valley Stream.

- No more than five people to a team.

- All scavenger hunt items must be submitted via email to ValleyStreamChamber@gmail.com before May 17 at 4 p.m., or they can be submitted in person at Sip This. In emails, the subject should be the team name.

Prizes will be awarded to first-, second- and third-place teams based on accuracy of the items collected and how quickly the hunt is completed. The prizes will be awarded during the week following the hunt.

Sabatino said the chamber is hoping to attract hunters from neighboring communities so that they get familiar with the businesses Valley Stream offers. He said the group is promoting the event on Facebook.
