Children display their Lego creations

The 20th annual children’s Lego exhibit is on display at the Henry Waldinger Memorial Library through the end of the month.

Building is a common theme among brothers Ziyad Ali, 7, and Zaydan, Ali, 6. Ziyad constructed Bladvic, a rumble bear from the show “LEGO: Legends of Chima,” and was quite taken by his creation’s ability to shoot marbles.

“The show is very cool,” Ziyad said. “Bladvic, he’s one of my favorite characters.”

Zaydan put his efforts toward building a dragon, which is actually meant for ages 8-14. Though he’s two years below that threshold, he was very pleased with his work after challenging himself.

“I went with the dragon because the head and the wings kind of looked hard,” he said. “And I wanted to get it.”

A trip to London in 2015 inspired Kayden Lambert, 10, who built a model of the English city — which included Big Ben — and a huge airplane.

“I went to London,” Lambert said. “My favorite part of the trip was the planes. I like planes because they go fast.”

Lambert said the plane took him 10 hours to build, while the model of London took about two.

Joelle Torres, 8, was inspired to build a colorful modern playhouse because it fulfilled her vision. “I want to live in a modern house like that,” Torres said, adding a smile. “And my mom could be inside and see me playing outside.”

Though it’s January, the Christmas spirit is still alive and well in 8-year-old Ryan Cheng. He decided to build Santa’s workshop complete with elves working to make toys and Santa himself reading letters from various children.

“I built it because it’s winter and the set is new,” Cheng said. “Santa brought me the set.”
