Craft fair coming to Hendrickson Park

Posted

Arthur J. Hendrickson Park will be home to the Village of Valley Stream’s first Craft Fair on Saturday, May 2, where local vendors and artisans will sell their homemade goods while attendees can grab a bite to eat and watch a live show.

“We’re really excited about this event, it really is going to be a lot of fun,” said SallyAnn Espositio, manager of the Valley Stream Community Center and director of the fair. “We’ve tried similar events like this before, but on a much smaller scale. This year we’ll have vendors, food, entertainment — all right here in Hendrickson Park.”

The fair will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., rain or shine, and will feature more than 10 local vendors displaying their goods, offering items from jewelry to cosmetics.

“There will be vendors selling items that they made themselves,” she said. “We’ll have vendors that make their own necklaces and bracelets, that make their own hand and body lotion, that sell their woodworking and carvings, so there should be something for everyone.”

Residents will be treated to a pair of free plays performed under the park’s gazebo, as well as a special hoola-hoop performance, and young visitors — and those still young at heart — can have their face painted.

“It’s the first time we’ve paired a craft fair like this with this kind of entertainment,” Espositio said. “It’s great because the kids can check out the shows while parents visit the vendors, all in one spot.”

Attendees will have food options as well, with food vendors providing breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks throughout the day.

Applications for vendors are still being accepted. To apply, those interested can call Esposito at (516) 506-1989 or stop by the Community Center to pick up an application. In order to be considered, vendors must submit their application and a fee of $75 to the Community Center by April 30.
