Twenty-one students from District 24 earned several awards at the Olympics of Visual Arts on April 21 in Saratoga Springs, where science, technology, engineering, art and math elements were featured in visual arts projects submitted by participants from 40 school districts.

Students from the Brooklyn Avenue School won first place with a photography project, “Toxic vs. Organic,” and third place for a graphic design project, “The Harlem Bird Walk.” Students from the Robert W. Carbonaro School took second place for their sculpture, “Rising From the Ashes,” and students from the William L. Buck School won first place for their drawing, “The Movements of Tango,” and were commended for their architecture project, “Buck Cove.”

The district’s Art and Enrichment departments have been working together to incorporate STEAM into the curriculum, according to the district. Enrichment teacher Risa Miller and art teachers Jane Berzner, Jessica Garfinkel and Laura Donovan guided the students during the event’s creative problem solving competition.
