Four high school students will represent Valley Stream schools in the All-State music groups at the New York State School Music Association Winter Conference in Rochester in December, with a fifth placed on a waiting list, Valley Stream Central High School District announced last week.

Annie Fitzgerald, of Central High School, will join the mixed chorus as a second soprano. South High School’s Maria Fredericks will play her flute in the symphonic band. From North High School, Sabrina Roy will sing as a second soprano in the women’s chorus and Matthew Wang will play the euphonium in the Symphonic Band.

Allyce Yang, of South High School, plays the viola and was chosen as an alternate. NYSSMA will make a final decision on her participation at a later time.

The students were selected based on their performances at All-State auditions.

About 7,000 students audition for eight All-State performing groups, and just under 900 are selected to participate at the annual Winter Music Conference, which takes place from Dec. 4 to 7 this year.
