HS football: Week 7

Posted

At least one Nassau County football team will be knocked from the ranks of the unbeaten on Saturday afternoon when Plainedge (6-0) visits Lawrence (6-0) in a Conference III showdown at 2 p.m. It's a rematch of last year's county title game won by the Golden Tornadoes. Also in Conference III, Hewlett (3-3) travels to Lynbrook (2-4) for a late start (8 p.m.) at Marion Street School, South Side (3-3) is home against Division (1-5) at 2 p.m., and Valley Stream South (3-3) goes to Manhasset (4-2.)

Two other undefeated teams face stiff tests. Oceanside (6-0) travels to Baldwin (4-2) for what promises to be a heated battle between the two Conference I rivals. A year ago, the Bruins rallied late to knock off the Sailors. Is it payback time? Kickoff is also 2 p.m. on Saturday. Also in Conference I, East Meadow (5-1) plays its homecoming game against Massapequa (4-2.)

Defending Conference IV champion Roosevelt (6-0) will try to remain perfect, but will need to stop West Hempstead's (5-1) vaunted ground attack led by Tayvon Hall and Enrique McFarlane. The Rams host the 2 p.m. start.

The action in Conference II begins Friday evening when Long Beach (5-1) heads to MacArthur (5-1) for a 7 p.m. start. Both teams are chasing Garden City for the top spot. On Saturday, Carey (4-2) hosts Elmont (3-3), and Calhoun (2-4) hosts Kennedy (2-4) at 2 p.m.
