Hillary is about to get 'Berned'

Posted

Who would have thought that the Independent U.S. senator from Vermont, Bernie Sanders, would so quickly close the gap with presumed 2016 presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton?

Bernie-mania has swept through Portland, Maine, where a packed arena of 7,500 screaming supporters waved signs that read “Feel the Bern.” This is nothing to sneeze at: Portland is a town of only 66,000.

Sanders embraced the shouting crowd, saying, “The American people understand that establishment politics and establishment economics is not working for America.”

Sanders is a progressive thinker, an Independent running on the Democratic line who is a longtime, outspoken advocate of health care for all, taxing the rich, tuition-free college, campaign reform and same-sex marriage.

So will Hillary get “Berned”? After trailing her by as many as 50 points in the polls just a few months ago, Sanders has now pulled to within 10 points in New Hampshire. In addition, he has doubled his support in Iowa in just over a month, and last week about 10,000 people attended his event in Madison, Wis. And by the way, Bernie has raised $15 million in the first three months of his campaign.

Political insiders are asking themselves, will Democrats panic and worry that Hillary can’t win? There is talk that perhaps a dark horse candidate, like Vice President Joe Biden, will be drafted in an effort to save the party.

Americans are having a hard time trusting Hillary. She continues to blame the right wing for what she has called a “barrage of attacks,” but really, they are the result of her own shortcomings, which have put the security of the people of the U.S. at risk. The Benghazi cover-up, the private email server and the reports of her selling out our nation’s national security for donations to the Clinton Foundation have opened up a lane for Sanders to have a real chance of winning the Democratic nomination for president.

The liberal wing of the Democratic Party isn’t buying Hillary’s newfound progressive ideals. They don’t believe she’s ready to take on the issue of wealth inequality, especially given the fact that hedge fund managers have been among her biggest donors.
