Local students to receive awards for essays

Three Valley Stream students will receive awards for essays they entered into a writing contest sponsored by the Irish Cultural Society at the group’s May 6 meeting.

Danielle Nuñez and Harshvir Parmar, of North High School, and Katherine Grygierczyk, of South High School, will each be recognized at the meeting, which will be held at the Garden City Library. Their writing teachers, Nicole Ryan, of North High School, and Stephanie Guzowski, of South High School, will also be recognized.

A total of 39 students were selected from 484 entries submitted by high schools throughout Nassau County.

Students were asked to write a rhetorical analysis of a 1943 speech by Ireland’s president, Eamon de Valera.

Portions of the winning entries will be read aloud at the meeting.
