Centre Stage debut

South High School received a grant to open a theater club called Centre Stage this year — a club that encourages students to work collaboratively to engage in theatre games and prepare for an annual theatrical production. The club will host its debut performance of “Neverland,” on Saturday, May 14 at 7 p.m. in South Hall. Tickets are $5.

Valley Stream Community Garden

Village officials will join with the Valley Stream Religious Council on Sunday, May 15 at 1 p.m. to plant a garden at the corner of Sunrise Highway and Central Avenue as a symbol of unity among the diverse groups that comprise the village’s religious community. Participating houses of worship include Holy Name of Mary Church, the Baha’i Center of Nassau County, Masjid Hamza Islamic Center, the Valley Stream Presbyterian Church, the Valley Stream Jewish Center, Unity Church of Christianity, First Church of Christ Scientist and Grace United Methodist Church.

Homes for Heroes fundraiser at new PizzaRev location

PizzaRev, a growing build-your-own artisanal pizza concept, will kick off the opening of its second Long Island location on Thursday, May 19 at the Green Acres Mall with a fundraising event to raise money for Building Homes for Heroes, a Valley Stream nonprofit organization which builds and gifts mortgage-free homes and home renovations for veterans and their families. Guests are invited to “name the price” of their custom-built, personal-sized pizzas, with a suggested $8 contribution to the organization.

Long Island Children’s Museum’s popular outdoor exhibit, “Our Backyard,” has reopened for the season, on Museum Row in Garden City., Tuesday through Sunday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Everyone will enjoy exploring the senso\ry garden and making evaporation art. Lovin’ her life

Melissa Manchester visits the area for her first Long Island performance since she released her latest album, “You Gotta Love the Life.” She’ll be at Adelphi University’s Performing Arts Center, Friday, at 8 p.m. She’ll reflect back on 40 years of music making, include, of course, “Midnight Blue,” her hit that started it all.
