Paralympian wrestler talks perseverance, respect

Posted

Memorial Junior High School hosted paralympian wrestler and motivational speaker Rohan Murphy on March 25 as part of CARE Week, which stands for caring, acceptance, respect and empathy.

Murphy lost both of his legs at birth. He told eighth- and ninth-grade students about his life, getting involved in wrestling in high school and then at Penn State University, and going on to become an accomplished powerlifter. Murphy has been featured in a Nike commercial and in publications including Sports Illustrated.

He told students to focus on overcoming obstacles and to always remain true to themselves. He encouraged his audience to work hard, live a healthy lifestyle and to be positive and caring, and to be accepting of others.
