It’s all hands on deck in the Village of Cedarhurst where a snow emergency was declared due to the forecasted storm that is expected to hit after 9 p.m. on Thursday.

“We have three extra men waiting in case we need and the whole [DPW] crew comes in at 7 a.m.,” said Mayor Andrew Parise.

The village has seven plows, three sanders and a crew of five that will be out shoveling throughout the business district, the mayor said, along with the three contracted plow drivers. Parise said the village will also keep on eye on possible flooding in the low-lying areas of Cedarhurst. The village has a supply of 100 tons of salt.

A snow emergency is also in effect in Lawrence to alert residents for the need to keep vehicles off the roads for plowing. Municipal parking lots are being kept clean, village officials said. Lawrence’s Department of Public Works is ready to go with plows, and salt spreaders, Mayor Martin Oliner said, adding that drains will be monitored to alleviate any possible flooding.

Stephen Mahler, mayor of Atlantic Beach, said the village is prepared. “We are on notice, we have our salt and people ready to go,” he said. “We’ve always cleared our streets pretty quickly,” Mahler said, adding that the village has 200 tons of salt on hand.

Woodsburgh Mayor Lee Israel said the needed equipment has been serviced and there are “adequate stores of sand and salt to cover the impending storm.” Israel said residents will be notified should they need to move vehicles off the roads and he is in contact with county police and PSEG, “to be informed and prepared as possible.”

A blizzard warning in effect through 1 p.m. Friday and expected snow accumulations are predicted between 6 to 10 inches. The forecasted storm also includes winds from the north of 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph. Temperatures are expected to fall through the 20s late Thursday night and through the teens on Friday. With the wind chill temperatures are expected to be between 0° to near 10° below zero on Friday.
