Guitar Show & Expo

Strumming along
Guitarists — from novice to professional — will find much to attract their attention at the latest edition of New York Guitar Expo. With over 90 vendors in attendance, the Expo has guitars for sale in all price ranges, along with guitar gear —including pedals, picks, straps, custom bridge pins and gig bags. Besides the dealers who will be selling and trading new and vintage guitar,s attendees can also sell or trade with each other, and are encouraged to bring their own equipment. The annual showcase of new and used instruments, vintage guitars, accessories and memorabilia often attracts a surprise guest or two. Giveaways include a free set of D’Addario guitar strings to the first 50 paid attendees each day and a drawing for a Taylor 214ce Grand Auditorium acoustic guitar. And those who are so inclined can join in on open mic/jam session, at E.B. Elliot’s on Freeport’s Nautical Mile, Saturday evening, starting around 7 p.m.
Saturday April 23, 10 a.m.-5:30 p.m.; Sunday April 24, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Freeport Recreation Center, 130 E. Merrick Rd, Freeport. For information, visit www.nyguitarexpo.com.

Stepping Back In Time

Westward, ho
A bit of the Wild West comes to Old Bethpage Village when visitors can step back in time to the days when cowboys were king. Experience the excitement of that long ago era as some modern day cowboys show off their skills in a horse mounted shooting competition. Witness this fast action event in which the cowboys with single action revolvers are scored on accuracy and time. Mounted contestants compete to see who has the best shot, using two .45 caliber revolvers each loaded with five rounds of specially prepared ammunition. Riders must be in full costume — chaps, suspenders, boots and, of course, cowboy hats — in order to compete. They’ll be demonstrating their skills at the restored village throughout the year, beginning this weekend.
Saturday, April 23, 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. $10, $7 children 4-14 and seniors. Old Bethpage Village Restoration, Round Swamp Rd., Old Bethpage. (516) 572-8400.
