Every dog has its day

The Friends of Valley Stream Dogs will host its 5th annual “Dog Day at the Green,” event on Saturday, June 18 at the dog park from noon to 4 p.m. There will be adoptable puppies, vendors, and fun for everyone. All are welcome. Visit vsdogs.org for more information.

Family fishing at Hendrickson Park Lake

The Village of Valley Stream will host its fourth annual family fishing weekend at Hendrickson Park Lake on Saturday, June 25 and Sunday, June 26 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This event is free to residents of Valley Stream. Bait and rods will be supplied by the New York State Department of Conservation but residents are encouraged to bring their own. Registration is required in advance. Mahjong practice

The Elmont Library hosts a Mahjong practice at 1 p.m. every Thursday. The practice is open to beginners as well as seasoned players. For more information, please call (516) 354-5280 ext. 1002.

Singing the blues

An eclectic line-up of popular musicians and vocalists gather in Long Beach for the latest edition of the Barrier Beach Blues and Arts Festival A diverse slate of acclaimed performers hit all the right notes, Friday, and Saturday.
