Valley Stream Girl Scouts renew promise

Posted

Valley Stream Girl Scout Troops 2124 and 2033 held their annual investiture ceremony at Holy Name of Mary School on Sept. 19 in which they renewed the promise they agreed to when they joined the organization and presented their picks for the parts of Girl Scout law they can live out in their daily lives.

Assemblywoman Michaelle Solages attended the ceremony, which included members of the Valley Stream Association of Girl Scouts in grades 2 through 11.

“As each girl posted their example, they solidified this commitment in living the law by lighting a candle,” said troop leader Dawn Samuel. “As the ceremony closed, there were wish circles, which is a traditional close for Girl Scout meetings. The parents and Assemblywoman Solages joined in the circle and bonded with the girls and their traditions.”

The girls also swapped pins they made for each other.

“That ended the night and so begins another Girl Scout year,” Samuel said.
