Posted

The Grace Thunderettes are searching for girls ages 4-18 to join their baton twirling and pom dancing teams. The group is holding registration on Saturday, Sept. 20 at the Grace United Methodist Church gym on Lincoln Avenue in Valley Stream.

Started in the summer of 2006, the Grace Thunderettes hope to “promote the art of dancing with batons and poms, and to build self-confidence in our athletes and encourage them to expand their friendships and knowledge,” according to their mission statement.

The Thunderettes perform at community events including the Valley Stream Community Fest and the Rolling River Day Camp Fall Festival, and compete in local, state and national baton and pom competitions. They took home second, fourth and eighth place awards at the 2012 United States Twirling Association national competition. The team practices Saturdays at the Grace United Methodist Church gymnasium and offers beginner, intermediate, advanced and toddler programs. Private lessons are also offered.
