Village officials remind residents that when clearing the snow in front of their homes, do not shovel it or blow it back into the street. Homeowners could be fined for that, Mayor Ed Fare, as it creates a hazard for vehicles. He also asked residents to shovel out the fire hydrants on their street.

With Valley Stream schools still on holiday recess, there was no need to call a snow day. Village Hall, the Henry Waldinger Memorial Library and the Firemen's Field Clubhouse are open Friday, but the Community Center at Hendrickson Park is closed.

PSEG, who took over from LIPA on Jan. 1, reports a handful of outages across Long Island, including Valley Stream and Garden City.
