Valley Stream man arrested for assaulting police

Threatened to stab officers who were answering domestic incident call

With a kitchen knife in each hand, a Valley Stream man threatened to stab police when they answered a domestic call at a Fairmount Street residence.

According to Fourth Squad detectives, police received a 911 call for a domestic incident on April 23 at 7:15 p.m. at that address.

When officers arrived, Chatelain threatening to stab the officers with the knives. When officers tried to place him under arrest, he began flailing his arms, spitting and refusing to be handcuffed. One officer suffered a broken hand, while two others were exposed to saliva and blood.

After a struggle, Chatelain was placed under arrest. Afterward, police recovered a clear plastic bag containing a white powdery substance believed to cocaine and several Xanax pills. The officers were transported to a local hospital and treated for their injuries.

Chatelain is being charged with assault in the second degree, three counts of menacing a police officer, two counts of criminal possession of a control substance in the third degree, menacing in the third degree and resisting arrest.

He was arraigned on Wednesday at First District Court.
