Lily Tomlin
Lily Tomlin doesn’t miss a beat, continuing to venture across an ever-widening range of media — television, theater, film, animation, and video. But it all centers on her comic roots, as evidenced when she arrives on Long Island this weekend with her one-woman tour de force. It’s an evening of comedy unlike any other, featuring her classic characters like Edith Ann, Ernestine, and Tess/Trudy, along with a host of others. This warm and affecting performance is filled with comic insights and wry, witty observations about the human condition in a style that only the versatile Tomlin can deliver.
Sunday, March 22, 3 p.m. $69.50 and $49.50. NYCB Theatre at Westbury, 960 Brush Hollow Rd, Westbury. (800) 745-3000 or www.livenation.com.

Jesus Christ Superstar
The first rock opera, with those memorable songs from Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice, still has plenty of life left, now being presented by Nassau Community College’s Department of Theatre and Dance. Based on a concept album created at the end of the turbulent ‘60s, it portrays Jesus as a social and political rebel and draws a parallel between contemporary celebrity worship and Jesus’ own meteoric rise to renown. As Jesus’ radical teachings are embraced by many, Judas increasingly questions the motives and pragmatism of this new “superstar.” Christ’s final days are dramatized with emotional intensity, with a thought-provoking edge and explosive theatricality that still resonates.
Thursday through Saturday, March 19-21, 8 p.m.; Sunday, March 22, 3 p.m.; also Wednesday, March 25, 8 p.m. $18. Nassau Community College’s Mainstage Theatre, 1 Education Dr., Garden City. (516) 572-7676.
