Budgets pass, Cristobal Stewart unseated in Valley Stream

Ten candidates ran for seven open Board of Education seats this year in Valley Stream. Five people ran for three open seats in District 13, with Sean Douglas’ seat uncontested. In District 24, three incumbents ran unopposed to keep their seats, and in District 30, two people ran for one open seat.

District 13

The $49.8 million budget passed with 58 percent of the vote. Frank Chiachiere, Sean Douglas and Patricia Farrell were re-elected. Chiachiere received 601 votes, Douglas received 767 votes and Farrell received 740 votes. Chiachiere's challenger Deborah Kalb received 481 votes. Farrell's challenger Atif Sajjad received 259 votes.

District 24

The $27.7 million budget  passed with 73 percent of the vote. Paul DePace, Armando Hernandez and Lisa Pellicane were re-elected. DePace received 348 votes, Hernandez received 370 votes and Pellicane received 355 votes.

District 30

The $34.8 million budget passed with 66 percent of the vote. The district's capital reserve fund expenditure was also passed. Matthew Khan unseated Cristobal Stewart. Khan received 359 votes and Stewart received 266.

Central High School District

The $113.4 million budget passed with 64 percent of the vote.
