Two village Department of Public Works employees were injured this morning after a car collided with their village vehicle on Merrick Road near Montague Street, according to a fire official.

Second Assistant Fire Chief Gene O’Brien said the crash happened at about 7:30 a.m., but that “it didn’t look too severe.” Mayor Ed Fare wrote in a text to the Herald that the two men were street sign and shop workers at the village DPW.

One of the men suffered a knee injury and the other suffered back and neck injuries, O’Brien said. Both men were transported to South Nassau Communities Hospital in Oceanside.

The occupants of the other vehicle refused medical attention, according to O’Brien.
