Jurors unanimous on one defendant in Mangano/Venditto case, 'split' on other two

In the fifth day of jury deliberations over the federal corruption case against former Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano, his wife, Linda, and former Oyster Bay Town Supervisor John Venditto, jurors reached a unanimous decision on one defendant, but were “split” on the other two, according to court officials.

It was unclear, as of press time, if deliberations would continue, or if a partial verdict would be announced.

Mangano and Venditto are both facing multiple charges of bribery and corruption, and restaurateur Harendra Singh, who has pleaded guilty to bribing the former officials in exchange for help for his struggling businesses, was the government’s key witness.

Venditto was charged with unlawfully securing town guarantees for millions of dollars in loans for Singh’s businesses. Ed Mangano was charged with pressuring Venditto to guarantee the loans, and Mangano’s wife, Linda, was charged for lying to federal agents to cover it all up.

The case has been ongoing at the U.S. District courthouse in Central Islip for 11 weeks.
